Meet PTO President: Christian Becker!
Hello!
My name is Christian Becker and I am the returning PTO President for Colina.
This will be my ninth year as a Colina parent and there is no elementary I would rather send my boys to. I love everything about this school starting with Mrs. Brunner, all of the teachers and staff and down to every student I get to see. It is so much fun for me to see all the kids' smiling faces and get to know some of them through various events. That is what made me join the PTO five years ago.
My goal for the PTO this year is to help our families who have been impacted by the COVID-19 crisis. Our events and fundraisers may not look like they have in the past, but our community always comes together when needed. The PTO will strive to find new ways to raise money so that we can continue to help our staff, students, and families this year.
My biggest hope is to get more families involved in what we do. We need volunteers at our events -- there is always plenty of opportunity there -- or just come to our Community Meetings, which are held quarterly. The more families who get involved, the more successful the PTO becomes, which benefits all our kids.
Have you ever wondered where the money the PTO raises goes? The PTO provides each classroom with a grant that helps teachers purchase instructional items they need. The PTO provides every staff member and student with a free Colina t-shirt at the start of the year, which is a great way for the whole school to be able to show school spirit. We provide books for the Reading Wall, a program that allows every student the chance to earn a free book every month. Finally, we put on amazing family events like Harvest Festival and the Family Dance.
These are just some of the things we do. I encourage all families to reach out to us with any questions or ideas they have. As Mrs. Brunner says, we are all in this together!
Looking forward to a great year!
